Oxford Health rollout the Community Nurse Bag

Updated: Jul 17

Sometimes, small changes can make the biggest difference, especially when you're delivering care in the community and travelling from one patient’s home to the next, with everything you need in tow.

Ben Pearce, Clinical Nurse Lead for the Physical Health Community Adult Mental Health Teams at Oxford Health, knows this all too well. Up until recently his team were using the standard drugs kit bag. As the role of community teams has evolved, so too has the amount and variety of equipment they carry every day. It became apparent that the old drugs kit bag was no longer fit for purpose.

Ben came across our Community Nurse Bag bundle and immediately recognised its potential to

improve the day-to-day running of his team. Purpose-built for modern community care, he considered the bag to be clearly more suited to the demands of today’s nursing teams.

The Community Nurse Bag is designed to be both car and patient-visit-friendly. It’s compact enough to pack neatly in a vehicle but spacious enough to organise everything a nurse might need. Six color-coded pouches help keep supplies sorted, while a larger compartment offers room for bulkier equipment or the included home visit backpack.

The Community Nurse Bag was co-designed alongside real community nurses from Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust, teams that know first-hand the everyday challenges of delivering healthcare on the move.

Seeing the benefits, Ben introduced the bag to the wider Community Nurse team at Oxford Health, which purchased 370 bundles for its teams.
