AIRsteril: how it works?

How AIRsteril Technology Works

The AIRsteril technology combines sterilising, cleaning, and purifying technologies, including germicidal UV light, dual UV operation, Photocatalytic Oxidation (PCO) and a purifying plasma of superoxide ions and optimal ozone. First, it uses internal processes to purify the air, before releasing purified air and Plasma Quatro back into the room to continue working.

Internal Air Purifying Processes

  • Germicidal Irradiation by dual UV light (Ultraviolet) kills microorganisms (bacteria, viruses and mould) by disrupting their DNA and removing their reproductive capabilities.

  • PCO – Photocatalytic Oxidation, UV reacts with the AIRsteril Catalyst (Ti02) to form highly reactive but short-lived oxidising Hydroxyl Radicals (OH) which break down Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).

  • Interaction of the dual UV wavebands with the TiO2 heterogeneous catalyst both creates and breaks down Oxygen molecules transforming Oxygen into a highly reactive state of Ozone and Superoxide Ions which leave the unit as “Plasma Quatro”.

Transmitted Technology

‘Plasma quatro’ is created and emitted into the room, where it will kill airborne pathogens, viruses, bacteria, fungi, mould spores, allergens and decompose odours and harmful gases. These techniques combined kill up to 99.9% of germs and viruses, but are in no way harmful to any living being in the room.


It might sound like scientific jargon, but the reality is that it works, and independent testing by Leeds University shows airborne microorganisms were undetectable after just 60 minutes.


It works by:

  • The negatively charged Superoxide Ions charge airborne contaminants causing them to cluster together and fall from the air as they become too heavy, aiding all other processes. This can remove airborne particulates down to 0.0001 microns, that’s better than any HEPA filter.

  • Targeted Ozone produced via the specialist lamp gets to the hardest to reach areas breaking down contamination in the air and on exposed surfaces. Ozone damages the cell wall of microorganisms stopping reproduction and destroying the cell.

Not just air; surfaces too!

This is where things get really cool, as the process not only manages airborne infection risk, but also santises surfaces and the wider environment.


The purified plasma breaks down microorganism cell walls, destroying the cells and preventing them from reproducing. The draw of air over surfaces – any surfaces including hard and soft materials – also kills the germs which are left behind by touching, breathing and coughing or which have settled in the environment.


The core advantage is that it works constantly, so even if people move around and leave pathogens behind in between your cleaning schedules, virus and bacteria will likely be eliminated in a matter of hours if not minutes.
