The National District Nurses Conference is always a great event for us to connect with our customers, share innovations, and understand the real-world needs of healthcare professionals working in the community.
When we attended in 2023, we were showcasing our latest infection prevention and control (IPC) community bags and met some of the Northumbria Healthcare team. They were looking at ways to better support their district nursing teams and were initially considering our Community Nurse Bag Bundle, with its practical size, flexible storage system and portability it’s a great solution for nurses moving between their car and patients’ homes.
Following that meeting, we stayed in touch and after the initial funding proposal for those bags was delayed, we worked with Northumbria Healthcare to re-evaluate its requirements and, in the end, selected a new solution: the City Backpack.

Why the City Backpack?
Designed with community-based practitioners from Whittington Health NHST, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHSFT and Central London Community Healthcare NHST, the City Backpack provides a versatile, ergonomic alternative to traditional clinical bags. Its design includes:
Eight colour-coded internal pouches for easy access and organisation
Dedicated space for a laptop, patient records, catheters, and even a kneeling mat
Comfortable backpack straps and a streamlined profile, making it ideal for urban travel and stair-heavy environments
Designed to also be used on a trolley
With increasing numbers of non-driving nurses, especially in urban areas, equipment needs to adapt. This supports the broader trend in community healthcare to become more flexible, mobile and deliver safer care. The City Backpack ensures clinicians can transport everything they need without compromising on infection control, patient safety, or their own.
The District Nursing Team at Northumbria Healthcare took delivery of 360 City Backpacks this April, in a rollout that will be key to both work efficiency and patient care delivery. Another successful partnership to be proud of, and all from a brief meeting at a trade show two years earlier.
